Victor Joe Garcia

Victor Joe Garcia was born on July 2, 1960, in San Bernardino, California, to Guadalupe Navarro and Jose Garcia. The eighth of eleven children, Victor's early years were filled with energy and adventure; he loved playing sports with his brothers and spent countless hours exploring and hunting along the Mojave River.

A Gift for Music and Connection

Victor shared a deeply close bond with his mother, Lupe. This connection paved the way for his life's calling when, at age five, his mother bought a guitar for the family. As the first instrument he was ever introduced to, the guitar immediately sparked Victor's interest in learning music. That initial curiosity quickly evolved into a lifelong mastery of the drums, and various percussion instruments. His professional journey began at just 13 when he joined the Camerena's family friends' band, The Latin Express, leading him to pursue music full-time by age 16.

In 1976, Victor joined the established group The Younger Half. Using the gift he believed Jehovah blessed him with, he traveled all 50 states and across the globe, spreading joy to thousands. He was known not only for his precision, timing, and leadership on stage but also for his rhythm as a dancer and choreographer. A proud career milestone occurred in 1984 when the band won a "Battle of the Bands," earning a cameo in the movie Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Family and Travel

In 1980, Victor met Christine, and the two were married in 1984 in Bakersfield, California. Together they welcomed their daughter, Christal. During these years, Victor balanced his love for music with his role as a provider, working as a warehouse supervisor. Victor eventually returned to his professional music career, traveling through Southeast Asia and performing at five-star hotels in Guam, Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines—fulfilling his lifelong dream of seeing the world through music.

A Meaningful Legacy

In 2014, Victor was reunited with his daughters, Christal and Drew. He cherished the years they spent reconnecting and establishing deep, meaningful relationships. To those who knew him, Victor was more than a talented musician; he was a deeply caring man and a gifted listener. He was the person you could truly talk to—someone who offered meaningful conversation and a compassionate ear.

Victor especially loved sharing his passion for music with Drew, serving as her teacher, coach, and mentor. In 2021, Victor embraced his most precious role as "Grandpa" to his granddaughter, Jade. Since she was seven months old, Victor lived together with his daughter, son-in-law, and Jade, creating a home filled with family and love.

Faith and Strength

Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in April 2023, Victor relied on his unwavering faith in Jehovah God. He devoted his final years to his spiritual journey, becoming a baptized Jehovah's Witness. He found great peace in reading the Bible, attending meetings, and even spreading the word of Jehovah through door-to-door service.

Through the grace of Jehovah and the support of family and friends, Victor was able to survive two and a half years longer than expected. He credited this time, and the strength to persevere, to his faith and the love of his community. Victor spent his final days as he lived them—surrounded by his close family, friends, and bandmates, including those from The Younger Half and E3.

Survivors

Victor is survived by his daughters, Christal and Drew; his granddaughter, Jade; his brothers, Gustavo, Rudy, James, Carlos, and Chris; and his sisters, Irma, Sandra, Sylvia, and Josie.
