With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Rogelio Boado Gavina. His dear friends and family lovingly called him Manong, Uncle Roger, Lolo Roger, and Pops. He was a loyal friend and a steady presence to many. Roger passed away on June 28, 2025, at Marian Hospital in Santa Maria, California.

Roger was born in Agoo, La Union, Philippines, on August 8, 1948. He was the second of four children to Crispin and Maria Gavina and grew up in Tuba Central, Benguet, Philippines. Roger attended St. Louis Boys High School and St. Louis University. In September 1967, he joined the United States Coast Guard at US Sangley Point, Cavite. He proudly wore the uniform for 28 years, rising to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO-E8). Roger was a faithful teammate, impactful mentor, and quiet leader who earned the respect of those around him. He retired from service in August 1995.

He then served for 25 years with the United States Postal Service in Alameda until his retirement in 2020. After retiring, Roger relocated to Santa Maria, California, where he invested his time in serving others through community organizations, including the Fil-Am of Santa Maria, the Filipino Seniors Association, and the Fil-Am Social Club. Throughout his life, he touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of kindness, love, humor, and generosity.

Roger leaves behind his loving wife, Nelia; his sisters, Adelina (Samuel) Van Fenema and Aurora Gavina; his sister-in-law, Elena Gavina; numerous stepchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his gentle guidance, warm presence, and unique smile.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Crispin and Maria Gavina; his brother, Manuel Gavina; and his first wife, Sally Soledad Gavina.

Roger's memory will live on in the stories shared, the kindness he gave so freely, and the love he showed to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Lori Family Mortuary, 915 East Stowell Road, Santa Maria,
